Real Madrid enter race for German star
Real Madrid are poised
to hijack Manchester United's bid to sign Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan, according to reports in Spain.
Los Blancos boss Carlo Ancelotti has identified Gundogan, who has
been a long-term transfer target for United, as a future star and is
ready to pounce ahead of Louis van Gaal.
Gundogan is poised to make his eagerly anticipated comeback
from injury this week and both clubs have been keeping a close eye on the
23-year-old's progress.
The Germany international could be available for around £20m
in the January transfer window and the Red Devils reckon the Dortmund star
could be convinced to join the club, as recent moves for Arturo Vidal and Kevin Strootman have hit a brick
wall.
Van Gaal has made no secret of the fact he wants to continue
strengthening his squad at Old Trafford, but knows Madrid will provide stern
competition for Gundogan's signature next year.
