A
top Gauteng lawyer has warned that parastatals like Eskom, South
African Airways (SAA) and Telkom are more vulnerable to organised crime
and terror activities in this country than ever before.
The
director of Werksmans Attorneys, Bernard Hotz, says South Africa is seen
by the rest of the world as a country with relaxed law enforcement
regulations.
Hotz says organised criminals are working with terror groups to target southern Africa.
He says terror groups are using companies that are dealing with corruption and mismanagement problems because they're soft targets.
"These organised terrorist are astute. Where is it going to be easiest for them to get funding? It’s easiest where corporations are in disarray."
Hotz says South Africa is also seen as a soft target by terror groups and organised criminals as the country has limited intelligence capabilities.
