Arsene Wenger says Per Mertesacker has a "50-50"
chance of facing Chelsea this weekend after being forced to leave
the field during the FA Cup semi-final with an ankle injury.
Mertesacker escaped serious ankle ligament damage during the
2-1 victory over Reading at Wembley, but he still
suffered a sprain and has been receiving intensive treatment in an attempt to
get him fit for the big game at Emirates Stadium.
The German international will not want to miss facing the Premier League
leaders and he will be given every chance to prove his fitness ahead of the
match on Sunday.
Wenger said: "Per Mertesacker got
injured and he has been out since. He's still in the treatment room and I don't
know if he will be available or not.
"[He is] 50/50 [to start against Chelsea] at the
moment. He's not trained at all."
