The hosts turned in a brilliant performance to dismiss their
rivals for 242 in the second innings, sealing a 169-run win.
England’s performance was a far cry from the 2013/14
whitewash, when Andy Flower's side lost in spectacular style.

And ex-paceman McGrath, who took 563 Test wickets during his
glittering career, conceded the hosts were just too good for the Baggy Greens.
“I think England surprised them,” he told Drivetime.
“We always know England are a different team at home, they
know how to play in their conditions, the Duke bowl is something Jimmy Anderson
and especially Stuart Broad bowl very well with and it was a
great team performance - I don’t know how they can improve on that."
Australia travelled to England as overwhelming favourites to
regain the Ashes, and while disappointed with how they performed in Cardiff,
McGrath backed the Aussies to bounce back, starting in the second test at Lords
on Thursday.
“It was a pretty average performance,” he added.
"England outplayed them in every department, so they’ve
got a fair bit of work to do between now and Thursday – they have to bat,
field and bowl better.
"But they’re all professionals and quality players, so
that’s not going to be hard.
"There’s still a long time to go in this series
and Australia have been playing good cricket as of late."
