Sandra Bullock has officially introduced the newest member of her family.
After months of rumors that the Oscar winner had adopted a second child, Bullock introduced 3 1/2-year-old daughter Laila on the cover of People magazine.
“When I look at Laila, there’s no doubt in my mind that she was
supposed to be here,” the actress said about her daughter, whom she
adopted from foster care in Louisiana.
Bullock, 51, revealed she first began the process of expanding her
family three years ago, but did not divulge how long she had fostered
Laila or when she officially adopted her.
She did note that her 5-year-old son Louis, whom she adopted in 2010, “spearheaded this whole journey.”
The star admitted there were some challenges in adding Laila to their
family, with the little girl needing comfort and reassurances she was
there to stay.
“I knew she was scared, and all I wanted was for her to know Louis and I weren’t going anywhere,” Bullock said.
The siblings have formed a tight bond, and the “Gravity” star said
Laila has brought “pink and glitter in the house mixed with Legos and
Batmans.”
The trio posed for several family portraits for the magazine taken by the actress’ new boyfriend, photographer Bryan Randall, although Laila's face is not shown on the magazine cover while Louis wears a superhero mask.
“My family is blended and diverse, nutty, and loving and understanding,” Bullock described her new family unit.
“I can tell you absolutely, the exact right children came to me at the exact right time,” she said.
The movie star’s big reveal comes several weeks after she denied reports she had adopted a second child.
"If I had a second adopted child, everyone would be hearing about it," Bullock told the Associated Press in October.
"I would be loud and clear and say, 'Yes, I have officially adopted a second child,'" she added.
