"All old yellow cards will be invalid from April 1st 2019.
"Get the New e-Yellow card in 5 simple steps.
"Kindly visit https://t.co/rRspAuTXqY for more details. Thank you."
With these few words, the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) is hereby notifying prospective travellers on the need to secure fresh Yellow Cards as part of their requirements to travel outside the country.
Ordinarily, there's nothing so extraordinary in introducing new Yellow Cards, most especially in compliance with the modern trends. The disturbing aspect of the story is the fact that FAAN is suggestively promoting the e-Yellow card for money motive and not for health reasons.
Yellow Cards are expected to be valid for at least 10 years. What is the fate of those who got theirs less than five years ago? Are they expected to apply for another one?
FAAN should have devised a campaign strategy in which the existing Yellow Card holders can still use their cards up to a certain point before going for the new e-Yellow card.
The idea of discarding the existing Yellow Cards as a pack of tissue paper is not portraying FAAN as a serious government agency.
The Federal Government should call FAAN to order and make the agency comply with the SERVICOM best practices.
