WHO sets up emergency team for 'explosive' outbreak

The World Health Organization has set up a Zika "emergency team" after the "explosive" spread of the virus.
Zika has been linked to thousands of babies being born with small brains in Brazil.
WHO director general Dr Margaret Chan said Zika had gone "from a mild threat to one of alarming proportions" and was having a "heart-breaking" impact.

Map of Zika casesThe team will meet on Monday to decide whether Zika should be treated as a global emergency.
The last time an international emergency was declared was for the Ebola outbreak in West Africa which has killed more than 11,000 people.

Zika was first detected in Uganda in 1947, but has never caused an outbreak on this scale.
Brazil reported the first cases of Zika in South America in May 2015.

‘Save4 Shelter’ promo Fidelity Bank Produces Winners

FIDELITY Bank Plc’s on-going promotional campaign, tagged ‘Save 4 Shelter’ promo has produced first set of winners.
A total of 21 customers drawn from the six geographical zones of the country won different cash prizes and consolation prizes of six refrigerators and generators sets at the first draw conducted at the bank’s head office in Lagos.

 
The draw saw a customer carting away N2 million, two customers won N1 million each; six customers won N500,000 each, to bring the total cash prize to N7 million. Also, six customers won refrigerators, while another six emerged winners of generating sets.

Chama Fumba 'Pilato' arrested on Accused of Defaming President Walks free

Chama Fumba, 31, whose stage name is Pilato, struck a defiant note outside the court, saying he was not fazed by the case and vowing to continue composing similar songs.

 
Fumba was arrested last month and charged with conduct likely to breach the peace over the song, which allegedly defamed President Edgar Lungu.
At a court hearing on Monday, state prosecutor Like Pumulo said he had instructions from Zambia's chief prosecutor to abandon the case.

Election; Tanzania's Ruling Party appoints Works Minister for Presidential Race

Dodoma - Tanzania's ruling party on Sunday named Works Minister John Magufuli as its candidate for this year's presidential race, making him the most likely next leader of the east African nation.
 
The Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) party has ruled Tanzania for five decades and its candidate is widely expected to take over from President Jakaya Kikwete, who has served a maximum two terms, after the October 25 election.

Run Convict Prisoner David Sweat shot by State Police

A sharpshooting state police sergeant gunned down on-the-run convict David Sweat after spotting him jogging down a country road Sunday, ending a three-week search for him and a fellow prisoner after their stunning getaway from an upstate prison.
