Moments of Action & Victory from the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon- PHOTOS

The Access Bank Lagos City Marathon, with over 20,000 athletes had participants from 13 nations registering to compete for 92 million naira, the prize money for completing the standard 42.195 kilometres marathon.

 The marathon sponsored by Access Bank, started at the National Stadium, Surulere at 7 am, taking runners through the major roads of the Old Lagos, the Third Mainland Bridge to the Lekki – Ikoyi Bridge, terminating at the Eko Atlantic City in Victoria Island.
Abraham Kipton of Kenya was the first to cross the finish line at 2:16:21 with Kipkemboi Hosea (Kenya) and Debebe Tolosa (Kenya) finishing 2nd and 3rd respectively. Halima Hussein Kayou of Ethiopia was the first female to cross the finish line at 2:38:36 with Alice Timbill (Kenya) and Aberash Feyase (Ethiopia) finishing 2nd and 3rd respectively for the overall female category.

After a 2-2 draw at Sixfields in the original tie, Karl Robinson’s men were comfortable winners against League Two Northampton.
Ben Reeves put the hosts ahead from the spot early in the second half, before Josh Murphy doubled their lead eight  minutes later. The Norwich loanee calmly finished past shot-stopper Adam Smith.
Simon Church confirmed the result with one minute remaining as he coolly converted from the spot after goalkeeper Smith fouled Rob Hall in the box.

After months of several interesting entry submissions and countless number of votes, Nigeria’s fastest growing telecommunications network, Etisalat has officially released successful entries that made the longlist for the 2015 edition of the Etisalat Prize for Literature Flash Fiction Category.

‘Save4 Shelter’ promo Fidelity Bank Produces Winners

FIDELITY Bank Plc’s on-going promotional campaign, tagged ‘Save 4 Shelter’ promo has produced first set of winners.
A total of 21 customers drawn from the six geographical zones of the country won different cash prizes and consolation prizes of six refrigerators and generators sets at the first draw conducted at the bank’s head office in Lagos.

 
The draw saw a customer carting away N2 million, two customers won N1 million each; six customers won N500,000 each, to bring the total cash prize to N7 million. Also, six customers won refrigerators, while another six emerged winners of generating sets.

BusinessDay Awards 2015: Access, Zenith, Skye, First Bank, Ayeni, lead winners.

At a glamorous black tie dinner organised at the weekend at the prestigeous Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island , Lagos, leading financial institutions in the country vied for BusinessDay’s Annual Banking Awards, which have become an industry benchmark for outstanding performance.
At the awards,outstanding Nigerian banks and their innovative managers who directed their organisations on the path of creativity, growth, profitability and safety, were honored.

Access Bank came out overall tops to clinch the award of the Bank of the Year, having recorded gross earnings of N168.3 billion for half year ended June 30, 2015, representing an increase of 43 per cent over the N117.9 billion recorded in the same period in 2014.
Contesting closely with Zenith Bank and FCMB, Zenith Bank’s Peter Amangbo, emerged as the bank CEO of the year, a position that was keenly contested by Access bank’s Herbert Wigwe and FCMB’s Ladi Balogun.

True historical stories inspire Carnegie and Greenaway winners

Tanya Landman's Buffalo Soldier won the Carnegie medal and was influenced by the true story of former slave Cathy Williams, who enlisted as a man in the US army.
Debut author William Grill won the Kate Greenaway Medal for his illustrated book Shackleton's Journey.

Danish election: Opposition bloc wins

The centre-right group led by ex-PM Lars Lokke Rasmussen beat Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt's centre-left coalition, although her party is the largest.
Ms Thorning-Schmidt has now stood down as Social Democratic Party leader.
