Dr Irene Damola Burnt to Death

A retired radiologist and the eldest child of late Ologbosere of Warri Kingdom, Chief O. N. Rewane, was yesterday burnt to death in an early morning fire in Lagos.

The cause of the fire that killed the 75-year-old Dr. Irene Damola (nee Rewane) at her 5, Tola Adewunmi Street, Maryland, Lagos residence, could not be ascertained at press time.

Katie May (Late), Playboy Model who was dubbed ‘Queen of Snapchat,’ dead at 34

A Playboy model dubbed the “Queen of Snapchat” has died after suffering a catastrophic stroke, TMZ is reporting. She was 34.

Playboy model Katie May died Thursday after suffering a major stroke, TMZ is reporting. She was 34.
Katie May, who was also a single mother and a marketing partner for a sports betting website, had the stroke Monday in Los Angeles, her family told the gossip website.
The blonde bombshell had struggled with neck pain recently and tried to get treatment before a blockage in May’s carotid artery caused the massive stroke, according to her family. The report didn’t list where she was receiving medical care.

A young woman who went to Milwaukee for a concert froze to death after leaving her friends and walking out into the subzero cold.
Elizabeth Luebke, a 21-year-old from Oshkosh, was seen on surveillance cameras collapsing in the snow around 4:30 a.m. near the house she left after an argument Saturday night.

LASSA fever: Death toll rises to 41 from 93 suspected cases —Minister

Abuja— The Federal Government disclosed, yesterday, that Lassa fever has claimed 41 lives from 93 reported cases in 10 states of the country even as the Senate has summoned the Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, over the outbreak of the disease.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the Federal Government, last Friday, put the death toll at 40 out of 86 reported cases of Lassa fever outbreak in same 10 states. The number of the suspected cases also rose from 86 last week to 93.

Model Sam Sarpong, a TV host, dead at age 40 in apparent suicide: report

The 40-year-old Sarpong was the former co-host of MTV's "Yo Momma" diss show along with actor Wilmer Valderrama, and he also modeled for Tommy Hilfiger.

33 years old, NYPD Officer Randolph Holder dies after being shot in the head by gunman in East Harlem

An NYPD housing officer was killed Tuesday night, shot in the head by a trigger-happy perp during a chase and gunfight on a pedestrian overpass above the FDR Drive in East Harlem, police said.
Officer Randolph Holder, 33, was shot in the forehead by the callous gunman, who had stolen a bike and was being pursued by cops along the promenade hugging the East River around 8:30 p.m., Police Commissioner Bill Bratton said. The brave officer died at 10:22 p.m. at Harlem Hospital.

Woman found dead in Hudson River off Washington Heights

A woman in her 40s was found dead in the Hudson River off Washington Heights on Monday afternoon, police said.
 A body was pulled from the water at about 125th street in the Hudson River in Manhattan on 10/12/ 2015. It wasn't clear if male or not.
The woman’s body was spotted near W. 165th St. and brought to shore at 12:30 p.m., cops said.

No group has said it carried out the attack, but the government believes that two male suicide bombers caused the explosions, hitting a peace rally.

Turkey is mourning the deaths of at least 97 people. These are just a few of those who lost their lives, clockwise from top left:
  • Elif Kanlioglu: A 20-year old student in her second year of university, who loved studying foreign languages.
  • Yilmaz Elmascan: Described by a friend as a peace-loving man, who got married last year. His wife is also said to have been killed in the attack.
  • Sebnem Yurtman: Studied at Ankara university, and later in Adana. She was described as "full of life".
  • Mesut Mak: He was a member of an agriculture and forestry union. He had a daughter.

ICAO, says Bristow to pay over $600,000 as compensation to victims, others

 As AIB retrieves transcript of flight from air traffic controllers Bristow Helicopters is to pay over $600,000 as compensation and damage to victims of the ill-fated helicopter that crashed last Tuesday, killing six persons out of the 12 on board.
According to the International Civil Aviation Authority (ICAO), annexe on compensation for crash victims, each victim is entitled to $100,000.
ICAO, a few years ago, raised the compensation to $100,000 from the $10,000, according to the Warsaw Convention.
 
They are supposed to get $30,000 as initial payments shortly after the accident and then get the remaining $70,000 three months after the crash.

Doctors’ Strike: As death toll, 500 dead in 17 days- (HISPAG)

Data compiled by the Health Insurance Service Providers Association of Ghana (HISPAG) has revealed that 500 people have died nationwide since public sector doctors declared a strike on July 30, 2015, to demand conditions of service. It is believed that many of the dead could have been saved as they died while being transported from one hospital to the other.

Allen McQueen, 21, shoot dead in the head at the Bronx with Daughter in his Arms: Cops Report

The last thing he saw was his wide-eyed baby girl still cradled in his tattooed arms, clutching her to his chest after a fatal bullet tore through his head.

Moore leads tributes to late actor Sir Christopher Lee

The actor, who made his name as Dracula, famously played Bond villain Scaramanga and starred in both The Lord of the Rings and Star Wars.
Bond co-star, Sir Roger Moore, tweeted his sadness at losing "an old friend".
George Lucas hailed "a great British actor of the old school. A true link to cinema's past and a real gentleman".

In a lengthy post on his Facebook page, Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson called him a "scholar, a singer, an extraordinary raconteur and of course, a marvellous actor".
He continued: "I was lucky enough to work with Chris on five films all told and it never ceased to be a thrill to see him on set. I remember him saying on my 40th Birthday (he was 80 at the time), "You're half the man I am". 

"Being half the man Christopher Lee is, is more than I could ever hope for. He was a true gentleman, in an era that no longer values gentleman."

Georgia high school teacher killed in traffic accident with students from her school en route to chaperone prom

A Georgia high school teacher driving to chaperone the school prom died after a car carrying two students who were also en route to the school dance crashed into her vehicle on Saturday night, according to reports.

Police are still investigating the crash.
Leah O’Brien, 33, a science teacher at Lakeside High School in the Atlanta suburb of Decatur, was commuting with her 8-year-old daughter and executing an eastward turn at roughly 6 p.m. when the teens’ car hit hers from the opposite direction, Decatur police officials told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
