Liverpool reject £40m bid from Arsenal for Luis Suarez

Luis Suarez

Arsenal have failed in their latest attempt to sign Luis Suarez from Liverpool.

The Gunners tabled a bid of just £1 over £40million on Tuesday evening, which triggered a clause in the forward's contract.
Under the terms of Suarez's deal, the Reds are duty bound to consider any bid over the £40m mark and inform the 26-year-old of it.

But Liverpool are under no obligation to sell and have told the Gunners that figure is not enough for them to part with the Uruguay international.

The Merseyside club previously turned down a £30m bid from Arsenal, and manager Brendan Rodgers has repeatedly said he is under no pressure to sell his star man this summer.

Speaking on Monday, Rodgers said: "There's been a lot of speculation over the course of the close season but the reality is that he's a player who is very much valued at Liverpool. And unless there's any sort of offer that comes in that's anywhere near his value, there's nothing to consider. We haven't had that."
