The five-year-old from Kazakhstan suffers from a condition known
as ichthyosis – a complaint which turns his skin into reptile-like
scales.
Zhasulan has tan and grey scales on his limbs and across his torso,
while it affects his ears and face and the scales appear to be stuck on like
stamps.
It varies in its severity and improves in fine or sunny weather.
The condition was passed on from his mum Ulbibi, and there is no way to
prevent it – but the boy is now set to undergo specialist treatment in Israel
after strangers touched by his plight have donated £24,000 to help him lead a
normal life.
Zhasulan said: "I don't want to be a lizard anymore. I want to be
normal."
Mum Ulbibi added: "I want my son to be healthy, so he will live a
fully normal life, like all the other kids.
"I sincerely thank the people for their support."
