A Daily Trust photographer, Mr. Ikechukwu Ibe, was yesterday named Photo Journalist of the Year by the Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism (WSCiJ).
Ikechukwu won with the photograph of soldiers manhandling a man suspected to be a thief along Mararaba Road in Abuja. The award took place in Lagos at the 10th Wole Soyinka Award for Investigative Reporting.
The photograph, which was published in the Daily Trust, attracted widespread concern within and outside Nigeria.

It prompted the setting up of a panel by the force headquarters to investigate the incident. The award was first held in October 2005 to encourage the development of investigative journalism in the Nigerian media through rigorous scrutiny of human rights violations, regulatory failures and corruption in the public and corporate sectors of the nation.

The 69-year-old professor of economics and international affairs at Princeton University was previously at Cambridge and Bristol universities.

His research focuses on health, wellbeing, and economic development.

 

Professor Deaton had been in the running for the prize several times in past years.

Barcelona's UEFA Super Cup victory this week marked their fourth trophy in 2015, with two more to possibly follow before the year is out, but which European club has won the most trophies ever?

It's not exactly a straightforward question to answer, because opinions differ over what should constitute a trophy.

Chelsea have won 26 trophies – to find out which clubs make up Europe's 10 most successful sides from the strongest leagues.

For example, Arsenal have technically lifted three trophies in the past month, but no one in their right mind would count either the Barclays Asia Trophy or Emirates Cup as a serious piece of silverware.
