The WannaCry virus attack wreaked havoc in mid-May as it hit over 200,000 computers world-wide. The virus affected computers in 150 countries across North America, Europe and Asia, and the attack was the largest ransomware delivery campaign till date.

The National Health Service (NHS) in the UK was affected. Critical medical procedures had to be postponed, hospitals were unable to admit patients, and ambulances had to be diverted to other hospitals. Doctors had to briefly go back to pen and paper. In China, college and university students found their data encrypted by the virus. In Germany, the railway was affected, as was one of the largest mobile companies in Spain, Telephonica. The virus made its way to numerous other industries and businesses around the world.

Mayor de Blasio’s security detail slaps truck driver with 13 violations after he apparently ran red light, drove wrong way down street

Mayor de Blasio is taking Vision Zero very seriously.

Hizzoner spotted a truck driver in Brooklyn run a red light and drive the wrong way down the block on Wednesday, so he had his detail pull the unlucky guy over, sources said.

The detail, who had been sitting in the black SUV they use to drive the mayor around, quickly discovered the man had no registration on the truck and wasn’t licensed to be behind the wheel of such a large vehicle, sources said.

 

Franky Matarrese was hit with 13 violations — including driving the wrong way on a two-way street, running a red light, and being unqualified to operate a vehicle for driving with an out-of-class license.

Kosovo Hacker"s Security arrested by Malaysia for 'hacking US files for IS'

The man, who is in his 20s, was detained on 15 September, Malaysian police said in a statement on Thursday.

Separately, the US identified him as Ardit Ferizi, thought to head a hacker group called Kosova Hacker's Security (KHS).

 

Mr Ferizi will be extradited to the US.

A statement from the US Department of Justice said Mr Ferizi, known by his moniker "Th3Dir3ctorY", hacked into a US company's systems in order to take the personal details of 1,351 US military and government staff.

He will be charged with computer hacking and identity theft, and faces up to 35 years in jail, the statement added.

The ability of the savvy management and board of directors of Ashaka Cement in cutting costs has helped to spike full-year profit by 61.70 percent as the security challenges in the Northern part of the country continue to erode sales.

For the year ended December 2014, Ashaka’s profit after tax (PAT) surged by 61.70 percent to N4.56 billion from N2.82 billion the same period of the corresponding year (FY) 2013. Sales increased by 2.68 percent to N21.13 billion.

Interior Minister- Says: Security Challenges is Temporary

NIGERIA- Minister of Interior, Comrade Abba Moro has stressed that the security challenges facing the nation at the moment is temporary. Comrade Moro, who said this at the weekend, in Okpoga, Okpokwu local government area of Benue state, during a reception held in his honor by Ede-West ward, maintained that the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan has the capacity to tackle the Boko Haram insurgency and restore total peace to the country.

He decried the unnecessary bickering in the nation’s polity, noting that it is not healthy for the system and averred that it is only through unity and support for the government that the country can
develop. “This system is working; because as we all know that the country is coming from a background  of decayed infrastructure. Goodluck is passionate about the development  of the nation. He is restructuring Nigeria and he needs our support”, he said.

The minister also, drummed support for the Senate President David Mark for 2015 election, describing him as bastion of hope for the Idoma nation and advised anyone angling for his seat to wait as ‘there is no vacancy’. He lashed out at All Progressive Congress (APC), describing it as ‘Angry People’s Congress’, whose aspirations will tear apart soon.

That's what David Kennedy did. He's a security researcher and "ethical hacker," and remembers only one: It unlocks a password vault, an encrypted database that stores dozens of his other passwords. Each one ranges from 30 to 50 characters long.

"Even if hackers got access, it's protected and encrypted and keeps it in encrypted format," said Kennedy, who has the tech skills to crack passwords easily. 

Web security tools are increasingly in focus as people scramble to change their passwords following a software bug called Heartbleed, which enabled security holes on sites thought to be secure. 

Along with strong passwords and safe password storage, Kennedy also says 2-factor verification is a must for anyone signing in to a website. With this process, you enter your regular password, but that triggers a text message or a phone call with an additional code you must enter before signing on.
