‘Agric, Solid Minerals Export crucial to Economic Diversification’

The Federal Government must seek to boost agricultural and solid minerals export to boost its economic diversification drive, the Managing Director, Nigerian Ports Authority, Mr. Habib Abdullahi, has said.

He said the agency had therefore keyed into the Federal Government’s agenda to diversify the economy by focusing on ways to encourage the export potential of agricultural products and solid minerals.

Private Investors needed in the Agriculture Sector – Minister

Nii Djanmah Vanderpuye, the Greater Accra Deputy Regional Minister, has called on private investors to partner government to help develop the agriculture value chain.

 

He said this would make Ghanaian farmers more profitable and also give them the opportunity to expand in the export market.

Nii Djanmah said this in a keynote address when the Accra Metropolitan Assemby (AMA) in collaboration with the Metro Department of the Food and Agriculture celebrated the 31st Farmers and Fishermen’s Day at the Karikari Park at Dansoman on Friday.

Syngeta Nigeria has launched Ambligo, fast acting crop insects pesticide

To help the Federal Government’s agricultural diversification drive, Syngeta Nigeria has launched Ambligo, a new, fast acting pesticide that could be used at any time, against many crop insects, ‘Tuta absoluta,’ a deadly pest, which if not controlled could destroy up to 100 percent of the tomatoes in a field.

Syngeta also launched two new tomato hybrids, Chibli and Kilele, and as well as introduced two local rice seed varieties in Nigeria at an event held on Tuesday in Abuja.

CBN amends Commercial Agric Credit scheme Guidelines

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) says it has revised the Commercial Agriculture Credit Scheme (CACS) introduced in April 2010.

 

 The amendment is contained in a circular issued by Mr Kelvin Amugo, the Director, Financial Policy and Regulatory Department, CBN, on Tuesday in Lagos.

Agric Investors urge ATA Sustenance in Buhari’s Administration

Agric investors in the country have urged the incoming government of General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd.) to sustain the Agricultural Transformation Agenda (ATA) started by the current President Goodluck Jonathan-led administration when it takes over.

Anga Sotonye, a commodity exporter and publicity secretary, National Cashew Association of Nigeria (NCAN), said, “ATA has been so wonderful; it should be retained irrespective of the fact that it was started by another government, but it can be improved upon but must not be thrown out.” Sotonye, however, urged the incoming government to float a very large fund of about N1 trillion to N2 trillion which will be an all- inclusive fund as soft loan for the various sub-sectors in the agric industry.
